Who is Embrace Uganda?
Embrace Uganda is a non-profit organization. We work to serve some of the 2.3 million orphans in Uganda. We are a very grassroots organization. We have NO paid staff. Even our team on the ground in Uganda, AJ and Ana Overton, receive only $500 a month to cover their housing, food and transportation needs. They get nothing for themselves! I serve as an unpaid Executive Director and many others volunteer their time to help. Volunteers raise funds, organize mission teams, design and update our website, manage logistics as well as handle all the day to day business activities. More than 50% of the funds raised have been raised by youth who have hosted book sales, soccer tournaments, 5K races, concerts, etc. Youth serving youth – it is powerful! Join us today – volunteer and change the life of a child!

Blessings,

Paige Hamp Volunteer Executive Director

At Agape Children’s Village (ACV) there was much anxiety surrounding the fact that a previous sponsor (which has funded the children’s village for the past few years) will be withdrawing funding of the project at the end of next year. The house mothers and children had already begun making arrangements to resettle back into their respective communities, although, many of them had no true homes in those areas. Now that EU has announced their intention to help fund ACV, the mothers have even begun new income generation activities to do their part to supply the needs for their children.

Hope! The orphanages and schools care for hundreds of vibrant, eager, disciplined young children who otherwise have no place to go. It costs just $3000.00 a month to keep one entire orphanage running – that includes everything needed for the children and care mothers including food, clothing, shelter and education! Agape Children’s Village funding is drying up. If the orphanage closes, these children will end up returning to villages that could not care for them in the first place. Who knows where they will wind up after that.

These women and children truly love the Lord with their whole heart soul mind and strength. Prayer before a meal could last 30 minutes (our meal doesn't last that long!) and EVERYONE prays! Worship services go all morning. No one watches the clock and everyone dresses in the one nice outfit they own. They study their Bible continuously and in some cases, know God's Truth better than us because they do not have the distractions of entertainment to watch and corporate ladders to climb.

When teams go over, they are deeply ministered to by the Christ in them. Life is hard, but it is also simple. And the one word that continues to reflect what is seen by those who venture to Uganda: JOY.

"The Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance among you, and the alien, the orphan and the widow who are in your town, shall come and eat and be satisfied, in order that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do."
--Deuteronomy 14:29, NASB
"The LORD protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, But He thwarts the way of the wicked."
--Psalm 146:9, NASB
"Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world."
--James 1:27, NASB
Also see: Job 31:16-17, 21 and Isaiah 1:23
"Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless,Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow."
--Isaiah 1:17, NASB
You, me, anyone with a heart for Africa, and leading towards Uganda and an understanding of our need to care for the widow and the orphan.

Hope! The way we are working Pennies for Uganda is very simple. You ask God what you are willing to give up from your want that provides pennies that can be sent overseas to what Ugandan orphans need..

Just email me your amount by month - it could be one time, monthly, weekly, doesn’t matter. I will add to the tally on the website. If you would like to share what you are giving up, I can add that to the list as well.
  • Starbucks Coffee - $40

I am giving up going to Starbucks for coffee and making at home. Between the gas and the coffee itself, I am saving approximately $40.00 per month! Wow! Another giver is no longer donating 2 or 3 dollars to various organizations and instead is giving it to Embrace Uganda – another $20.00 a month.

You would write your own check to Embrace Uganda. A 501c3 organization.
Just be sure to put "Pennies/Agape" in the memo line!

“For an entire school year it cost just over 50 dollars to send her to school…12-15 cups of starbucks… Whenever I smiled at her she would just smile back…I don’t think coffee smiles back."

--Danny Myers, 18, 3 trips to Uganda…so far.
