How many times during my illness did I hear "you're just going through the fire." I'd look up from inside the furnace and say - 'Thanks! It's nice and warm in here! Care to jump in with me?" And so this aptly spoken word was not the apple of gold Proverbs talks about. Rather it tasted like a bitter pill that the Lord was asking me to swallow on top of the 50 other pills I choked down each day. Until Elizabeth called me.and that was the day my perspective on the refiner's fire was forever changed. Join me for a journey into the fire. Want to make the most of the time you have left here? As I was rushed into the ICU three hours from home I had to wonder, would I ever see my children again? Spending six days struggling for every breath helped me to see that each moment I breathe is a gift from God – He gave me breath and He will take it away. Would we live life differently if we really understood that we can’t hold onto even a second? What would change if we let go so we could grab hold of this thing called life? Wherever you are on life’s timeline one thing you can know for sure – Father Time’s second hand keeps moving! Does the tick tock make you ‘cuckoo?’ God’s gift to you was your life – what you become is your gift back to Him! What if all you could do was think? Where would your mind take you? As I spent months staring out our bedroom window, armies of negative thoughts would come in and attack my peace. I wondered is there something wrong with me that I worried or became anxious or felt sad or alone or wandered? Was my faith weak? What would it mean to truly and completely die to self and live for Christ? I needed to learn and fast. The last prop that kept me from sinking into a coma was taken away from me. I became allergic to the medicine that kept toxicity in my body to a manageable level. I had to lay everything down before our Heavenly Father. What did it look like to prepare ‘me’ the way of the Lord? What palm branches could I lay down before His Majesty? Jesus talks about making ourselves ready for His arrival. As His bride, it was time to make myself ready in a way that I had never done so before. Was my lampstand filled?
